UK Prepared to Utilize Seized Russian Assets to Fund the Ukrainian War Effort

The British government is prepared to move forward with utilizing the entire amount of seized Russian funds to aid Ukraine's war effort, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has declared.

In a shared declaration, the leaders of the Britain, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany asserted that this joint measure would increase strain on Russia's leader Vladimir Putin and compel the Russian Federation to participate in talks.

They clarified that the initiative would be implemented in close cooperation with the United States.

UK restrictions have immobilized in excess of £25bn of Russian assets since Moscow launched its comprehensive attack against Ukraine in 2022. However, previously, funds provided to Ukraine using Russia's assets had solely been sourced from gains and dividends earned on them.

Sir Keir assured President Volodymyr Zelensky that the Britain, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany were aligned in their desire to drive progress toward employing the complete amount of the frozen Russia's state holdings to end the war.

He noted that more measures over the next period would increase the strain on the Russian government.

This declaration follows European Union officials gathered in Copenhagen recently to consider employing immobilized Russia's assets for a €140 billion financial aid to the Ukrainian nation.

Last month, US President Donald Trump encouraged G7 allies to take or employ immobilized Russia's holdings, based on reports.

The value of seized Russian funds in the European Union is estimated to be almost €211bn.

Leader Zelensky encourages Britain's Sir Keir Starmer to participate in the PURL initiative

The Russian government carried out extensive aerial attacks throughout the Ukrainian territory on recently, causing blackouts in significant regions of Ukraine's capital, the city, and multiple additional areas.

A pair of individuals were killed and a minimum of 20 people were wounded in the assault, authorities in Ukraine said.

In a message on an online platform after the strike, Zelensky stated that the cynical and calculated attack targeted public and utility structures.

"What's needed is not mere statements but decisive action - from the America, the European Union, and the Group of Seven - in providing anti-aircraft weapons and enforcing restrictions," he emphasized.

"Every sanction decision weakens Moscow's military apparatus," Zelensky noted, in a different message.

In the same period, Zelensky told media outlets he would urge Sir Keir to enter the weapons procurement programme, under which alliance members buy arms from the United States to donate to Ukraine.

While praising the UK's strong support for the Ukrainian government, he said it should send a clear signal that it would engage in the system, as well as enforce more measures on Moscow.
